Experimental Evaluation of some central nervous system activities of Calcium Channel Blockers: Effect on isolation Combativeness and Suppression of Conditioned Avoidance Response

چکیده
Calcium channel blockers are widely used in the treatment of cardiovascular disorders for their actions on the voltage sensitive calcium channels in cardiac and smooth muscles. The reorganization on calcium channel antagonist binding sites in the limbic regions of the brain, raises the hope that these might also be helpful in some behavioural disorders. Calcium channel blockers act by blocking one more type of calcium channel located in the cells. An interesting finding noted is that blocking of voltage gated channels results in antinoceception. Voltage gated T, N, L type of calcium channel blockers contribute significantly to excitability of sensory neurons but the N channels are particularly important because they control release of neurotransmitters from the peripheral and central terminals. Recent studies provided a link between opioids system and calcium channels.

The role of calcium channel blockers in wound healing
Wound healing is a natural response to restore the injured tissue to normal. Wound healing is also complicated process involving different cellular, molecular and biochemical mechanisms and various types of cytokines and growth factors. Calcium channel blockers belong to cardiovascular medicine and administrated to treatment of hypertension, angina and cardiac arrhythmia because of vasodilatory...
متن کاملThe effect of chronic oral administration of verapamil on learning and retrieval in rats using passive avoidance learning task
Verapamil is a drug that blocks L-type calcium channels and selectively inhibits calcium ion entry into the central and peripheral nervous system cells. Verapamil is used acutely and chronically in treatment of some cardiovascular and central nervous system disorders. It has also been shown that acute administration of verapamil has no significant effect on learning and memory in rats, but the ...

Objective(s): The structure- activity relationship of a series of 36 molecules, showing L-type calcium channel blocking was studied using a QSAR (quantitative structure–activity relationship) method. Materials and Methods: Structures were optimized by the semi-empirical AM1 quantum-chemical method which was also used to find structure-calcium channel blocking activity trends. Several types of ...

Background & Objective: Verapamil, nifedipine and diltiazem are calcium channel blockers widely used as a variety of cardiovascular ailment in humans. A number of studies have shown that calcium channel blockers have anticonvulsant effect in a range of animal seizure models (but not all animals). The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of verapamil, nifedipine and diltiazem on pe...
